Paphos!

Well readers, it's been an awfully long time since I blogged and I apologise for this because I haven't been doing anything until now......

I have just come back off my holiday to Paphos, Cyprus with Kieron and I have had a brilliant time, the people were friendly and the country was really beautiful with the amazing sites, and the weather was scorching hot.

Me and Kieron left Birmingham airport at 14.15 and landed at Paphos airport at 20.55 (Paphos is 2 hours in front so it would have been18.55 UK time.) We collected our luggage (which finally arrived after waiting ages for the carousel to start) and was greeted in 'arrivals' by Janine & Colin who were taking us to the apartment which we were staying.

We were shown around the apartment by Colin, and were then left to it! It was a nice little apartment, very cosy and had a shared pool, which was small but adequate! We got changed into something cooler, as it was really warm outside, and went to have a look about.

Where we were staying in Kato, Paphos was on a main stretch of road, and all we needed was only a short walk away. We were in the tourist area, which made some restaurants and bars a little expensive but you only had to walk a little bit further to find somewhere a bit cheaper.

As we were walking round, Kieron phoned his dad (Tony) to say we had arrived!

*Piece of information*
The idea of going to Paphos was because Kieron's Cousin (Chris) was getting married over there, and some of the family had already arrived a week before me & Kieron!

*Back to the story*
So, we met the family in the Evis pub, which did some very nice cocktails!!! After having a few drinks, me and Kieron continued aour little look round. Near our apartment we found a street, called Bar Street (which resembled Broad Street), a long stretch of road which bars and clubs on either side. Here we found a small kebab shop and me and Kieorn decided to get something to eat - the meat in the kebabs is a lot better than the crap we get here!

So after eating and watching some lads doing breakdancing we went back to the apartment and went to bed.

Monday 07/08/06
Our first proper day in Paphos and we weren't to sure what to do. We had some breakfast and decided to look throughsome leaflets that were left in the apartment from other people. We found a leaflet to visit Paphos Bird & Animal Park, we looked to see where it was and decided to go for it.

It was just past Coral Bay, which is slightly North of Pahos, we had to get 2 buses, 1 to Coral Bay and 1 to the park. After catching the first bus to Coral Bay we set about trying to find the next bus. We found bus stops but they didn't give us any information, so after looking about for 10 minutes we asked someone - who turned out to be a Cockney and he looked to be a rep!

He knew where the park was and told us to go back to the main road, past a go karting place and it the park was 1 1\2 Kilometers from there. It wasn't far (we thought) and set off walking up the road. We went past the go-karting place & thought we were on our way .........

..... 5 kilometers later we were still walking getting more and more pissed off by the minute. We came up to a garage and decided to get more water and to ask someone where the hell this place was, a guy came over from the petrol pumps and we asked hime and he said very nivcely that it was ANOTHER 2 kilometers down the road - I was not impressed, we told the guy we had walked from Coral Bay as the cockney had told us and he couldn't believe it, so in the end we got a taxi, as i refused to walk any further and we shortly arrived at the Bird & Animal Park.

We had a look round the funny looking birds and went to see a parrot show. It was very funny doing all the usual tricks, but still good. We carried on walking around and decided after 2 1/2 hours we had had enough. We left and got a taxi back to Coral Bay and a bus to go home. We stopped off in the harbour for something to eat and a pint and walked back to our apartment.

We decided to get in our pool for a bit until we were ready to go out for a drink with Kieron's family. We went out to The Balck Rose, which was cheap and cheerful an did some really good cocktails. After spending our time there, we decided to head off up Bar Street to the Robin Hood. We had a really good laugh, and everyone got a little bit tipsy, but eventually in the early hours we went to bed.

Tuesday 08/08/06
Bright and early start to the day as everyone was going to Paphos waterpark. We met up with
Kieron's mum & dad (Maria & Tony) and got on the bus. We set our stuff on a couple of sunbeds and went off to try some rides. They slides weren't too bad mainly for kids, but me & Kieron enjoyed the wave pool and the lazy river, wehich basically consisted of sitting in a rubber ring and catching the sun whilst slowly drifting around. We were there all day and had a great time, although me and Kieron got a little bit burnt. We got back to the apartment and showered and went out for something to eat at the Crocodile bar. Me and Kieron were tired and decided to call it an early night.

Wednesday 09/08/06
Aha, the big day. Chris & Cathy's wedding. We were meeting everyone at the Black Rose, e and Kieron went early to have some breakfast. Tony & Maria, Sue & Ray (Kieron's Aunty & Uncle) arrived and we went over to the hotel where Chris was staying to be picked up by a mini bus to take us to the chapel.

The 'Alter' was a couple of steps up to a large platform with a huge canopy over it. The service was actually quite short but there were lots of photos. After about 30mins we were taken to the local beach where we were accommodated to the beach bar and the drinks started flowing. We then had a meal at about 7pm which consisted of Baked potatoes, sundried tomatoes, pork, chicken drum sticks, salad and pasta it was all very nice but very filling!

After the meal and speeches we went back to drinking, I got very drunk, Kieron got very merry and everyone else was totally smashed! So a good night was had by all.

Thursday 10/08/06
After being drunk last night I decided to have an alcohol-free day. Me and Kieron went back to the Black Rose for a Full English and we met up with Tony & Maria. Tony had hired a little Suzuki Jeep for a few days and we were invited along to go and see some sites. We started off at the tomb of the kings - the title explains what the site is! We spent a good 45mins there taking in the views, it was a scorching day around 40C. As we left we got some water and ice creams and set off towards the harbour. Me and Kieron went off to see some old ruins whilst Tony & Maria took a look around the harbour. We looked at an old castle, and some old mosaics but time was pushing on and we had to leave without seeing the ampitheatre.

We then left to go get something to eat and made our way towards our apartment. We stopped off at the Romantica and enjoyed a very nice meal. Me and Kieron made our way home and decided to take a dip in our pool, however when we got back the pool had been taken over by kids who had arrived yesterday. So we walked back to Tony & Maria's apartment and went for swim there.

A bit later we met up with Ray & Sue at the Nature Pub. We had a few drinks but me & Kieron then headed off to get something to eat. We went to the Ribshack, Kieron had ribs in bbq sauce and i had chicken fajitas. It was gorgeous, the best meal i had so far. After we went back to Sue & Ray, Tony & Maria had gone home as Maria didn't feel very well, but we stayed and had great night and a laugh.

Friday 11/08/06
Me and Kieron decided to go back down to the harbour as we hadn't really been down there. There were lots of different boat trips you could go on and me and Kieron decided to do a few. The first one was one Kieron had been waiting to do all week, the Tornado Jet. Twin water-jet Rolls Royce engines, 700bhp, and went at about 60-70mph. It took you out into the sea, did 360 turns, tail spins and slides, but the best bit was they drove in a straight line at full speed and then slammed the brakes on. The nose dipped and we got drowned by a big wave of water. It was a brilliant experience, really enjoed it!!

We then decided to take leisurly trip on the glass bottom boat. They took you out for an hour and you saw a few fish and a reckage of an old Spanish ship. It wasn't a bad trip and you got some lovely views of the harbour. After doing all that and having a look round, we decided to get something to eat. We got a kebab and made our way to Tony & Maria's apartment to take a dip in the pool. Me & Kieron spent ages in the pool, just relaxing in the sun. We went home to get changed and then met up with everyone and the Old Irish Pub up the road. Unfortunatley it was karaoke night and blood expensive as well!!! We stayed a couple of hours but Kieron was getting hot in his trousers so we decided to go and get changed. By the time we got back we were tired so stayed in our apartment having a few drinks and then turned in for the night.

Saturday 12/08/06
We decided to go out with Tony & Maria, we decided to go and have a look at some of the different beaches and bays. We took a trip to a small bay Aegios Dreprano, it was a small bay but very pretty. From there we went to Larna Reserve it was a very bumpy track to get to it, but it made everyone laugh. We stopped for something to eat a little cafe, Kieron tried Bream and i had a toasted Ham & Cheese toasty. After that we carried up the reserve it was quite a long strip of beach but very dusty. We headed on back on the bumpy trail and set off to the turtle and sea caves. We went into a small rocky end of the caves, but it was very slippy (i ended up on my backside!!!) From there we headed off home.

Kieron decided to take me to a seafood resturant t try and get me to eat seafood, however i backed out and had a tune salad!!!! We then met up with Tony & Maria at the Evis bar. Maria had lost her wedding ring, she had put it in one of the bags when we went to the beaches but had lost it when tony took the towel out. We searched the car but there was no sign of it, she was very upset. So Tony decided to go and get her another one from a Jewellery's down the road. Me and Kieron had been looking in the shop previously and it was all very nice jewellery.

After about 30mins Tony & Kieron came back with a beautiful yellow & white gold band. I thought it was very beautiful but Maria didn't look very impressed. After talking about the ring me & kieron decided we would get a ring ourselves as they were very lovely. So we did!!!!!

We bought each other's ring as a small but valuable token. I had an Amethyst and Diamond 18 Carat gold ring in a small arrow head shape. Kieron had an 18 carat white and yellow gold slim band. As Maria didn't like the one Tony had recently bought her they too came back to the shop and she chose another one, it was hexagonal shape with yellow, white and pink gold with small rectangle decorations in it. From there we met up with Ray at the Paphos Gardens Hotel, me and Kieron stayed for an hour as we were tired and tomorrow would be our last day.

Sunday 13/08/06
Well the week has sadly come to an end. Our flight wasn't till 9.55pm so we had a little time to do something, first we went back to the Black Rose for breakfast and met Tony & Maria. We decided to go a bit more North and drove around little villages for awhile and then stopped by the Harbour for an Ice Cream. We were passing time really and befor we knew it, it was 5.30. Me & Kieron went back to pack and tidy up the apartment . We had something to eat before we went and Tony came to take us to the airport. I was quite sad to leave, it had been such a lovely holiday and i wanted to stay longer.

As usual the flight was delayed from 9.55 to 11.3o. Also to make it worse, because of the terror attack from Heathrow on Thursday we were allowed no hand luggage on the plane apart from passports, tickets, and money. I was so bored but the time passed (somehow) and we eventually got home. Mum & Gaz came to pick us up and it was nearly 4.00am Monday morning before i actually got to sleep.

It has been a great holiday and we are even planning next years. It's back to work on Tuesday so i'm making the most of my day off today (Monday).

Here are some photos i took on holiday, hope you enjoy. xxx
